Sound/printer drivers are installed but not working

I am facing some problems while blocking certain files with the help of Comodo firewall. I usually observe a lot of svchost.exe running on my computer with Windows Vista installed on it. I want to block this file because it is consuming a lot of system resources. But as soon as I blocked it I came to know that a lot of Windows operations stopped and so I wanted to unblock this which fails everytime I try it. I soon realized that I should uninstall it to unblock those files but still nothing happened. So finally I reinstalled Windows Vista from the start. I had some problems while installing the drivers but somehow I installed all the drivers and my Windows Vista is back running as it was before. Sooner I noticed that my sound and printer devices are not working at all. I can play the test music on Windows media player but cannot hear any songs. And printer is not detected. I have installed all the necessary drivers but still nothing happens. Please help in this matter.

Are you sure you installed all the required drivers? How do you know if everything was installed successfully? I suppose you either forgot to install the sound and printer driver or it was not installed properly. To make sure the sound drivers were installed properly, go to Start, Run and type in "dxdiag" and click on OK button. If you aren't receiving any information about the sound driver under Sound tab or you get any error message then that proves you don't have the drivers installed. Install it once again and see if that helps.

Ok thanks, I got the drivers for my printer. But still I am unable to get for my speaker. I tried all the things what you told me but still nothing helps. I can see the device listed over there in hardware settings having no conflicts. But still under multimedia there is no preferred devices and the box to change it has been blanked out.

I think you have been mistaken, basically speakers never require a driver to produce the audio instead it is the sound card that uses drivers to work on a specific operating system. You can use the drivers CD that usually comes with the computer or the device that you purchase to run on Windows. If that's on-board sound-chip then you must find the drivers on the motherboard cd itself. Or else you can visit the website of which you have taken the sound card for the drivers.

Did you notice any error messages in the Device Manager? Just go there and see if the Device Manager displays the following message in the Device Properties dialog box, on the General tab, in the Device Status text box:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12) "

This states that two devices have been assigned the same input/output (I/O) ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel. The assignment was made by either the basic input/output system (BIOS), the operating system, or a combination of the two.
