Converting MKV to M4V

Hello,
Format .mkv unfortunately (well good for quality but not what I want to do). It can be read on the mac with VLC or Quicktime, but I wish I could play it on my iPad. I seek to convert the file. So I try with what I normally used: iSquint. But it does not recognize .mkv. As for QuickTime, of course I try, but this time myself out of more than 150 hours it seems. So I'd like to know if you know a mac conversion software that supports .mkv to a format iTunes without loss of quality. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Even i am trying to do the same. There is a problem with Quicktime slow is that sometimes the file does not complete successfully. It is then not back up or put into iTunes. I just found "iPad Aiseesoft Video Converter". One of the things where they look like viruses for the PC. Finally I will first try on another .mkv more respectable size to see if it works, the speed and quality. Any more help is appreciated. Thanks for your help.

So to convert a .mkv to 377Mb (5min48s) the size / quality 1080p format iTunes for iPad (720p max) it took less than 8 minutes (set at 80% capacity most of the computer). The quality is there, then "only" 720p (115MB here). So "iPad Aiseesoft Video Converter" works well. In comparison to the same spot, asked it takes hours for Quicktime conversion (for in the end it does not work).
