Have you installed some heavy software means do you have the Sonic engine installed ? If you have done so then try to disabled it.

If it is not coming to help then performed a complete uninstall, and reinstall with the Sonic option unchecked in the installer.

Unfortunately, It will disable burning support, but as it is only able to creating audio CDs anyway, it is of small value nowadays. There are some of better burning programs available if you actually required audio CDs. More to the point, it will also disable CD-Text and other IMAPI services as well, a poor move when it replaced native support.

The engine is the one of the third party component developed by Roxio and used by Winamp for most CD access and services. If you are running with it then you can disabled it with the following steps :

Prefs > Input plugins > Nullsoft CD plugin > uncheck 'use sonic if available'

    and

Prefs > Media Library > CD Ripping > Ripping tab > uncheck Sonic option.

You may require to add the ASPI layer(attached). It is placed in the main Winamp folder with 'winamp.exe'. The attachments would not receive a .dll extension, so renaming the file name from .txt back to .dll before use.

Just consider the following things that can causes this situation, these are the alternatives of error -

    • Do you received any error message or error code when you applied to use rip the CD or when the Media player freezes?
    • The same thing is going to happening with all the CD’s that you play or is it only one, if it happens with only one CD then what format is it?
    • Does it happen only when playing CD or you get this issue earlier during playing media files on the hard disk?

Be sure that you have the newer version of current drivers to be installed. within system.

For now that you are in this situation, I would suggest you to organize a clean boot and see if any third party applications are interfering with the normal performance of the player.

To start the clean booting of your computer that is running Windows 7, you need to follow the steps are as follows .

    1. Click on Start menu and type msconfig in the Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, and type the password or click Continue.
    2. From the General tab, click Selective Startup.
Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
    3. Click the Services tab, click to choose the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    4. Click OK.
    5. During the prompting, click on Restart menu.
    6. After restarting the computer, check whether the issue is resolved.
