Many users face an issue while pasting the ActiveX Controls in Excel. I have tried to show what errors are displayed to you. Normally it happnes while you are opening a workbook in Microsoft Excel for Mac and you copy and paste an ActiveX Control or run a macro Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), the following errors may pop-up :
    • The application "unknown" has stopped its execution unexpectedly because of an error 3.

    • Runtime Error '57121 ':
Can not exit design mode because Control 'CheckBox1' can not be created.

    • Runtime Error '32809 ':
      Standard application-defined or object.

    • Error '1004 ':
Can not start the source application for this purpose. Memory may be insufficient.

In Excel X for Mac or later, these actions may provoke an error, but they will not work as expected.

You should know that you may not insert ActiveX controls in Microsoft Excel for Mac. In Microsoft Excel for Windows, there are two main ways to insert an ActiveX control in a spreadsheet or a custom user form. These methods are :
    1. To insert an ActiveX control in a worksheet in Microsoft Excel for Windows, point to Toolbars on the View menu, then click Control Toolbox. Click on the button control in the Control Toolbox, and then draw a control on the worksheet.
    2. To insert an ActiveX control in a custom user form, click on any tool in the toolbox, then draw a control in the user form. To add buttons for controls not listed in the toolbox, click the right mouse button on the toolbox, then click on additional controls in the menu.
    Blessings to you

Microsoft Excel for Mac does not include a Control Toolbox, therefore, can not you insert ActiveX controls in a worksheet. Note however that you can use the Forms toolbar to insert some specific controls on a worksheet. In addition, you can not add controls not listed in the toolbox when you use a user form in Microsoft Excel for Mac. You can only use the default controls included in the toolbox. These controls are not ActiveX controls, so you can use them in user forms.

If you work with a workbook created or modified in Microsoft Excel for Windows, and the workbook contains one or more ActiveX controls in a spreadsheet, the controls do not work when you open the workbook in Microsoft Excel for Mac. Or, if you work with a workbook that contains a form with user controls, they work only if the default controls that you can insert from the toolbox. Other controls (not listed) do not work in user forms in Microsoft Excel for Mac.

Re: Error while pasting ActiveX Controls in Excel for Mac

The two known issues that may occur when you open a workbook of its kind in Microsoft Excel for Mac are :
    1. The workbook opens, but the controls can appear as rectangles with symbols "X" red.
    2. You receive several messages "Conversion filter graph." On opening the workbook, the controls appear, but they do not work. You can not select with the mouse or remove them.

This problem occurs because Microsoft Excel for Mac does not support ActiveX controls (also known as OCX files).
