Decompressing downloads using Stuffit Expander

Hi,
I want to use a decompression utility which can help to run setup files on MAC. For that I got Stuffit Expander. I had not found any tutorials and information on the software. What are the features of this software and what formats does it support. How to decompress a setup file by using this software on MAC. Is this service is free.

In most cases, after downloading, you get a file on your desktop that ends with the extension. Sit,. Sitx,. Hqx,. Bz2,. Gz or. Bin. These files are compressed (using different methods, hence the different extension) that you will therefore initially unzipped with the application StuffIt Expander. I suggest you put this application in Dock to access them easily. This application decompresses all these forms of compression without problem.

Panther 10.3 is a free tool decompression which is located in the folder Applications / Utilities. It is this tool that automatically starts to unwind including compressed files that you download from the Internet. This tool can extract many different formats but this is a decompression tool, you can then compress your turn a file or folder with StuffIt Expander.

Just install StuffIt Expander and drag the file in it. To decompress a file like Hqx, Bz2, Gz o . Bin, just either double-click it. This will launch the application StuffIt Expander just drag and drop the file displaying one of these weird extensions on the icon of the application StuffIt Expander located in the Dock. This will open up the files and thus you can decompress the same.

It is a bad luck that StuffIt Expander is not available on Tiger and Snow Leopard. This application does not lies default in your Utilities folder. You can run the setup though and use the same application to decompress files. But on the other hand it is a free software you can download the same and try out. Just download and try this out.

Stuffit Expander is able to unpack the archive formats ZIP, RAR, SIT, BIN, or AES. The program can easily decompress archives created on other system like Windows or Linux. For added security, it is possible to examine the records by a virus such as Virex, Norton AntiVirus or VirusBarrier, for example. The program is particularly well optimized, you will gain a considerable time during handling of your records.

It is on your choice to keep the files or not. You can simply delete them and and keep those setup for a future re-installation. I will recommend you not to trash them as they can be more useful in future. However, you can either keep them in a corner of your hard drive or a ZIP, CD, and since you can reuse them if you want to reinstall later.
