It may be that the downloaded file may be corrupt and has some serious bug issues due to which you are not able to work well with the application. You need to uninstall the application and then try to get a new fresh installer copy of the same. Install the application and then look out for the change that may occur while executing the software. This should work out for you.

Look out whether the application supports Windows 7 operating system. It is quite possible that the software may not support the operating system and hence it show or performs weird signs and malfunctions. You need to check out for its compatibility and the requirement features. It may be that the application would not have the corresponding file that needs to be executed under the operating system.

Run a clean boot service in order to look out for the change that needs to be done. A clean boot generally disable the advance features and hence may allow the application that do not support Windows 7 to execute.

    - Click on the start button.
    - Type msconfig and hit enter in the searchbox.
    - Now under selective startup choose Hide all Microsoft Services.
    - Disable the features.
    - Restart the system.

    This should work out well.

Windows 7 provides compatibility tools for Windows Vista and Windows XP in order to make the applications to work out which is not able to cope up with Windows 7 operating system. These tools generally are used to cope the applications that supports them and then can be able to function under Windows 7 thereafter. Have a try to this you may end up with a better conclusion.

Uninstall the application and then reinstall it again. This may allow your application to work hopefully. Click on the start button and then open the control panel option. Choose the add/remove option and then choose the application from the list. Remove the software. Restart the system and then install the new pack of the application. Hope this should solve the the problem that you are facing.
