    Visio 2000 "Unexpected error; quitting"

I am trying to create a Timeline in Visio 2000. I am getting the error message "Unexpected Error; quitting", when I am adding a new shape from the Timeline shapes. However it allows the shape to be added and when I try to Configure Interval from the right-click options the same error message will appear. Does anyone know how to fix this issue.??

When you try to run the "Visio 2000" and you are getting the "Unexpected Error. Quitting " error, I think that the one of the following Wizards may encounter this error :
    • Chart Shape Wizard
    • Property Reporting Wizard
    • Page Layout Wizard
    • Import Flowchart Data Wizard
    • Custom Property Wizard

The application Visio 2000 uses a dynamic link library (DLL) module that must be registered. Many times the users with restricted access may not have sufficient rights to allow registration of the vaoutils.dll module. The manual registration of vaoutils.dll is not necessary with an Administrator rights and this application should operate correctly. You can register vaoutils.dll if you have Power User rights. Hope that this will help you..!!

You can follow the steps to register the dll and the wizards, with the membership in the Power Users group :
    • First Click on Start, and then then click Run.
    • Then type the following command in the Open box, including the quotation marks and then press OK
      regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Visio\Solutions\Visio Extras\vaoutils.dll"
    • You can see the following message, if your command is successful :
      DllRegisterServer in c:\Program Files\Visio\Solutions\Visio Extras\vaoutils.dll succeeded.

If the command "regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Visio\Solutions\Visio Extras\vaoutils.dll" is not successful than you can search your computer's hard disk for the vaoutils.dll file. The file may be located in a different folder. Once you find that file follow the next step.
Run the Wizards listed in the "Symptoms" section after starting the Visio application and then add the respective registry entries. By doing this your Error will get resolved.

Even if the registering the DLL's is not solving you problem, then I think you should repair your application, i.e. Visio 2000. I think that some of the dll's files are been corrupted or might be infected by the virus. So first try to scan your system with an updated anti virus. After scanning your system, try to repair your application else try to remove and then reinstall it. If you are reinstalling it, then first remove the existing version of the Visio 2000 and then only install the fresh copy. Because many times the overwriting on the older version doesn't help, so its recommended that you should uninstall the older version and then reinstall the application.
