    Vizioncore vRanger Installtion.

You can installVizioncore vRanger on Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008. It can be on a physical host or inside a virtual machine. Like other products, Vizioncore vRanger also comes with Microsoft SQL 2005 Express database. Installing the Vizioncore vRanger is very easy as you have to click on the "NEXT" button until "FINISH". You would be having an option to choose your manual database to install. It will list five SQL scripts which can be copied to your favorite SQL editor.

    Vizioncore vRanger Interface.

Vizioncore vRanger has quit slick interface. It is easy to navigate and also provides the list of successful and failed jobs. In addition to this Graphical User Interface (GUI) of vRanger have provided several pleasant surprises. An excellent feature that you can see the back up speed has been added as new feature. Though you can get this in other backup utility software but it is much easier to have it on vRanger.

    Configure Vizioncore vRanger.

After completing the installation procedure, The startup wizard will be guiding you for most important settings such as adding a vCenter server. You can enter the credentials for ESX hosts by using the same wizard but the good thing about this feature is that you can enter multiple hosts at a time which will be time saving while working with the multi hosts. From the configuration tab you can configure some job settings such as the maximum allowed number of tasks, maximum per logical unit number (LUN), maximum per host and maximum per repository. You can also configure the minimum amount of free space needed on the host, which allows for snapshot growth on the data store. This feature is well thought-out.

    Back up using Vizioncore vRanger.

VRanger uses the VMware Infrastructure application programming interfaces (APIs) to perform backup and data movement or creating a snapshot or checking free space on a data store. Data movement is done via a binary injection of a process into the service console (COS) and it is responsible for movement of data from a VM into a repository. ESXi is not supported by the VRanger because it does not have COS.

    Vizioncore vRanger: PowerShell commandlets.

You can find number of commands in the manual which will be allowing you to create a backup job, a repository, restore job, see the daily schedule and many more. You could these various tasks by using PowerShell. Though Vizioncore is working on Virtualization EcoShell freeware desktop application which will be allowing administrator to do PowerShell scripting.
