    iTunes Duplicating on Folder Import

    Hi everyone!

So for years I have been managing my music with iTunes by using the iTunes folder import to import my music. I just click the root folder of where my music is and iTunes automatically found and imported the new tracks. I've even gone through many system reformats while keeping the iTunes files so that my library was exactly the same after as it was before the reformat.

So now I just upgraded to Windows 7 from my beloved XP and thought I could do the same. I installed iTunes and then copy and pasted my music and iTunes' library files all back to where they are supposed to be. I opened up iTunes and everything seems to work perfectly. There are no missing files and everything is the same as before.

But the problem now it that when I go to import new songs using the Import Folder method, iTunes decides to make duplicates of everything! I have no clue why this is happening. I thought it could be due to the different file structure from Win XP to Win 7 (ie. Win XP goes username>Documents and Settings>My Music and Win 7 goes user>My Music) but wouldn't that mean that iTunes would think all my files were missing in the first place?

Any help would be appreciated because I don't want to lose all of my song information

    Thanks

Ok so I've done a little more investigating and here's what I've come up with.
    - after I copy and paste all of my music and itunes files to where they should be in, itunes can access all of them with no problem and I have saved all of my info (date added, play count etc.)
    - reason iTunes is importing each song again is because the Date created/modified of the actual mp3 file has changed to the date I backed up onto my external hard drive.

This is just really confusing because iTunes is using my previous library to access the songs which it thinks are when I go to import.

I really don't want to lose all of my info..

Re: iTunes Duplicating on Folder Import

    Hey,

I 'll suggest you to just remove the duplicate from the library so that only the original one will be remaining in the itunes. Just follow the step given below to perform the same
    • iTunes has built-in “Find Duplicates” feature which will find and remove the duplicate songs in iTunes
    • Highlight every track in your iTunes Library and then drag the tracks from iTunes to a new Folder on your drive.
    • This will make another copy of your Library which will include the duplicate in it.
    • Now remove every song in iTunes as well as file in your original Library on the drive.
    • Now move the data from new Folder to your Library folder and place the Library Folder back into iTunes.
