    Problem with DriveImage XML

DriveImage XML looks very much to system images. Apparently this software does not create a boot cd, then using BartPE and it works very well. Doubts concerning the backup and restoration of a system on a raid matrix. A priory to the backup does not pose a problem. On the other hand, making the restoration is another story.

If you have a BartPE with the drivers necessary to recognize the partition raid matrix. Can't DriveImage XML restore it without problem?

I think Acronis True Image has the same problem. The recovery disk does not recognize the raid matrix and Acronis recommend using BartPE with the Acronis True Image plugin and raid matrix drivers to access those partitions and restore the image.

I would like to know if this is not a problem with driveimage xml. Does anyone ever do these manipulation?

    Re: Problem with DriveImage XML

You assumed that environmental BartPE / WinPE environment is an operating system but with complete system management drivers.

As long as the environmental load RAID drivers is perfectly adapted to the structure of your HDD, all integrated program in your environment will normally operate the equipment properly.

For that, just boot into BartPE, run DriveImage XML, and verify that the program recognizes the partitions of your Raid. If it does not see the partitions, there is something wrong. Bad drivers? Poor integration of appropriate drivers in BartPE?

Now, there is also the compatibility of file systems: I understand that there may be problems between a BartPE environment (based on a XP shell) and install Windows Vista/7, the version of NTFS partitions being not the same (yes, the same file system evolves in time).

It is for this reason that Partition Magic does not work, even in BartPE environment with Vista partitions or 7.

The best way to install Vista/7 is to use a WinPE based on a core of Vista/7: it is also easy to integrate DriveImage XML in this environment. I know, I tested a restore image that has been very successful (non-raid situations, but it should do so as long raid that WinPE has the right drivers).

Be careful also about how your WinPE: x86 or x64. For an operation on a Windows x86, you'll need a x86 WinPE. For an operation on a Windows x64, you'll need a x64 WinPE.

    Re: Problem with DriveImage XML

Thank you for that clarification. BartPE sees everything very well, he has what it takes.

On the other side, to restore an image made before, how the file system is?
For example, I am under Windows 7, I start my driveimage XML. It created the image.

With BartPE direction under XP, I run Drive Image XML to restore, I restore the partition, this should not work

With regard to Windows 7 under WinPE, how did you do that? In the same way as we created a BartPE? Is there a tool to automate this procedure?

    Re: Problem with DriveImage XML

WinPE and BartPE is not the same thing. BartPE is derived from WinPE version 1.5 and uses a different method of integration of the official MS method (using Windows AIK). And BartPE includes a shell (the GO button generated by the nutshell).

You should know that to create a WinPE environment, you must pass through the Windows AIK tool provided by Microsoft. According to the kernel used, you must choose the correct version AIK:

AIK 1.0 builds a Windows PE 2.0 based on Vista RTM
AIK 1.1 builds a Windows PE 2.1 Basis on Vista SP1
AIK 2.0 builds a Windows PE 3.0 based on 7 (beta? RC? RTM?)
