Basically BD stands for Blu-ray Disc and BD+ is an interpreter mechanism or virtual-machine-based technology designed for security measures developed by Cryptography Research Inc. BD+ is a component of the Blu-ray Disc Digital Rights Management system. It is essentially a safety mechanism or technology on BD-ROM drives as a safety coating on the discs included. The protocol is defined as the DRM used to protect Blu-ray discs.

BD+ is based on their Self-Protecting Digital Content concept is an interpreter solely designed for security measures.BD + provides some sort of defense for the disks as a system of security response to act. There are a few formats of Blu-ray Discs available or in the works including BD-ROM, BD-R and BD-RE.BD+ is being rushed out to titles only shortly after the spec was finalized, partly in response to hackers cracking the protection on AACS earlier this year.BD+ has proven effective at re-establishing security for new titles, and forcing adversaries to reinvest resources to break each new version of security code.

Re: What is meant by BD+

BD+ played a pivotal role in the format war of Blu-ray and HD DVD. It uses a small virtual machine environment to ensure compliance, making it a highly refined protocol to use.The small virtual machine launches when a Blu-ray disc is included. It then runs in the background while the disc is playing, into disc's protected content. If it finds evidence of copying, playback can be disabled. Once the disc is ejected, all code is erased from memory. The BD+ Virtual Machine applies memory protection by masking memory access addresses to prevent them from falling outside of the designated memory areas.
