I want to protect my files. I want my users view them read them and download them. But the same must not be edited without my consent. I want an proper solution for this. Is there any password protection service which can block unauthorized access to my files. I especially want to protect the powerpoint file. Others are just fine. Any suggestions really appreciated. Here is a simple way by which you can protect your office files. Ms office has an inbuilt cryptographic service. By this you can encrypt your document with a password. One you can assign password to avoid anyone opening your files. And second you can put password which will open file but it not allow anyone to edit it. That is a password for modification. But one thing you must ensure that password protection is case sensitive. Once you forgot you cannot open it anyhow. If you are using Ms Office 2003 then when you save file you can see a option under save button. There is a small arrow next to it. Click on it and the select option. Go to security and assign a password.

There is a freeware tool called PP2TEXE Packer. The tool is used to password protect your power point files. It is designed for those files which are distributed or shared on the internet among the users. It blocks copying, printing and it has it own powerful encryption service. You can bind a password and without your consent no one can edit it. Once the file is encrypted the extension of the file is changes to pps2exe, pptx2exe, etc.

Click on Tools Security options. Add up the password and then your file is encrypted. If you worry that some one can modify then you can use a third party tool to protect the password. There are multiple third party tool which is available for free download. The one is PowerPoint Password tool. It is a freeware password protection and recovery tool. Once it is protected only you can open it or edit it by this software. You will have to take care that once you forgot the password you will loose your office file.
