    Play wtv on windows xp

    Hi,
My friend gave me a DVD disc of recorded TV shows. I copied them in my computer and tired to play them. But it is not working. They are recorded shows from a media center. Windows Media player is showing error that cannot found the appropriate codec for the same file. I need a proper converter and if possible a proper codec to play the files. Thanks in advance.

Download a DVR-MS converter tool. The standard format will not anyhow supports Windows Media player. Only after converting it to mpeg or any other DVD format it will work. Otherwise it is of no use. Go the site of DVRsoft and download the converter. The site offers a trial version but for the full you will need to buy a license key.

Commercially Windows XP does not support wtv file format. The file contains copyright protected content. So converting or copying is termed as unethical. According to me you should not try to convert or distribute it to the other people openly. You can face some penalties or even jail. The audio and video format is a Media center format and normally stores data of on air recorded shows.

Download WTV to MP4 converter. It is a portable video player which supports mulitple formats like ipod, psp, mp4, mpeg, etc. The application is specially designed to convert the WTV file format to mp4 video and then you can move on to further. The software offers a rapid conversion with high output quality and a resolution ratio of 1080p. All in all it is a one click converter, with batch conversion and high quality output.

I have a similar problem to Lishi.

I asked someone else to record some TV programmes for me while my PC was out of commission and the result is a disc full of WTV files recorded by Windows 7 Media Centre.

I have tried several pieces of software to convert them to MPEG 2 in Windows XP and nothing works. All the software seems to rely on the WTV codec being present and this is only available in Media Centre.

Does anyone know of conversion software that is self-contained (i.e. includes the WTV codec)?

Ideally, I would like to be able to use the WTV codec with other software but this is not essential.

I also want to be able to try the software before I buy it. That means I wnat to be able to convert at least one full-length recording from WTV to MPEG 2 and check it.

The issue regarding copyright and distribution should not be an issue here since these are recordings I would have made for myself, had my system been working and are for my personal use. There is no intention to widely distribute the media or for commercial gain.

Windows Media Center does have the advantage for recording live television, while the recorded video format is WTV which is only playable on Media Center PC with Windows Media Center installed. Unfortunately, it is impossible to play WTV files on Mac, Windows XP; let alone play WTV files on portable devices like iPad, iPhone, iPod, PS3, Android phones, BlackBerry...

you have to convert those recorded WTV to Windows XP friendly format like wmv, avi with some wtv converter

have you tried bigasoft wtv converter, i often use it to convert my wtv files to various video format like mpg, mp4, m4v, avi, wmv, mkv, 3gp, mov and more

    Hi guys
There is a converter already in Win7.
    With a win 7 PC.
Right click on the .wtv file
There you will see an option to convert to .drv-ms

A much more usable file type

    cheers
