Whats your system specs? Same problem was with me and the problem was due to your pentium 4 chip not Windows XP. Copy the contents of the 8i CD to your HD, find and rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.old

Do you have all the support packages like .Net Framework and C++ Redistributable installed? I guess this may be the problem. Also see what error do you get and post it here. May be you could get better help...

Some times you cannot install oracle 8 on windows XP system. It is better to use 9i software which connects to 8i databases. Check out this documentation on oracle 8.

What error are you getting?
Is it: "Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for windows NT available for install from this staging area"
