Unable to fast forward or rewind on XP Media Center

    Hey Folks

I have a Pentium 4 pc along with Xp Media Center on it. I even have 1 Gb ram along with a Tv tuner card installed on it. I'm able to record the tv shows as well as i'm able to play them on my system. The problem is that when i try to fast forward or rewind the show on my system it shows me an error message stating me to restart the system. Can any body tell me that why i'm not able to do a fast forward or rewind the show on the system? Does any body have any idea about this issue? Kindly help me out to get rid of the above problem.

    Thanks.

It sounds like it may be a decoder issue. Microsoft have a utility that can list all the decoders recorded in your registry, and indicate which of these are compatible with WMP10 and XP Media Center Edition. It will then ask you which of these you wish to use as the preferred video decoder. You can try out that one which is more suitable on your pc.

If you require technical help with Windows XP Media Center Edition, contact your manufacturer directly because the manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that the manufacturer installed on the hardware.

You can also visit the Windows XP Media Center Edition product information Web site at the following Microsoft Web site:- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...r/default.mspx

This is a common problem with some of the older versions of Windows Media Video codecs. For example - MSS2 - also known as Windows Media Screen v7 - was a common codec used for Camtasia movie making software - and one codec that prevented users from rewinding or fast forwarding due to it being such a basic and simple codec.

Try converting the file you are trying to view, into a different file format - encrypted with a different codec.
