What is pctspk.exe
Hello Friends,
I'm having an old Compaq laptop with Windows Xp running on it. Recently my laptop has slow down a little bit. I came to know that the program pctspk.exe is using 95% of my processing power, making the PC really slow. So, i would like to know that what is pctspk.exe? And what does if i disable it in order to speed up my laptop? Does any body knows about it? Kindly suggest me your views on the above issue.
Thanks.

Re: What is pctspk.exe
pctspk.exe is a process installed alongside PCTEL Communications hardware and provides additional configuration options for these devices. "This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.\r"
Note:-Not a critical component, but see the information above before disabling it. It is highly recommended to Run a Free Performance Scan to automatically optimize memory, CPU and Internet Settings.

Re: What is pctspk.exe
We do not yet know what this task really does, but we do know that PCTSPK.EXE and the related PCTVOICE.EXE occasionally run away with CPU consumption, up to 95%-100%, causing the inevitable extreme PC slow-down or freeze. In all cases that we have seen, disabling this process on the Startups tab in Win9x/ME, or setting its Startup Mode to Disabled on the Services tab in Win2000/XP, has not given the user any problem in his use of the modem.

Re: What is pctspk.exe
Pctspk.exe provides a system tray icon that can be used to configure and/or view information regarding your computer's internal modem. If you find this tool useful you should leave the process running, otherwise it can be disabled to free up system resources.
pctspk.exe is an application that does NOT appear to be a security risk. The Process Server database currently registers pctspk.exe to Pctel. This is part of Pctel Modem drivers.

Your PC's drivers may be out of date. This may cause hardware failures, conflicts and complete system crashes. We recommend you run a FREE driver scan to easily identify and list outdated drivers on your system.
