    Re: Voice over LAN

Run the Ventrilo client and follow the instructions below :

    1. Click the arrow on the far right of User Name [->] (after the white space, indicating that right), then the new window that opens click on "New" button and choose a name of your choice . Confirm by clicking OK.
    2. Click the arrow on the far right of Server [->] (the arrow just below that you clik first) as the User Name, click on New, and then set as the server hostname (e.g.62.149.210.65) without quotes, and the port 3795 (which is NOT the default setting of Default). Confirm by clicking OK.
    3. Click connect and you're online. In the main window you can see the name you have chosen, and the names of the other to have currently on the server.
    4. At the bottom of the window there are 4 options to select: the most useful is "Mute Microphone / Binds" which disables the microphone input, useful if you move away from PC and want to stay connected, or if you do not want to listen your conversations with other family members.

And now we go to the setup (5) of the program, clicking on the link marked this window will appear (see fig. Below):

    • The "Silence Time" (3), in seconds, is the duration of silence that follows what you said into the microphone, which uses Ventrilo to know when your conversation ends. For example, if I say into the microphone, "Hello, how are you?", The program starts to transmit not just say the word "Hello" and ending one second after you speak the word "go". Try then not to long pauses in your conversation (by then to believe that you have Ventrilo over), otherwise it will be chopped. A value of 1 second in the chat in games even slightly faster 0.5 to make your transmission. These values are indicative, however, experiment and find the value that best suits you.
    • "Sensitivity" (3), is a value expressed in a unit not specified, which indicates the noise threshold beyond which Ventrilo begins transmitting. To understand what value is set, do this, place the microphone where you want and click Display in the window, (5) scroll of numbers, that is roughly the value of the background noise in your room, then as "sensitivity" set a value of 3 / 4 points above the threshold of background noise. In the picture, where I have the computer background noise is about 15/16 (depending on the type of attention microg in your possession), so I set to 20. In the case of microphones "Headset" type headphones with microphone, be careful even on the threshold of your breath, otherwise transmit also. For example if the background noise in your room is 20 and perhaps breathing rises to 24, set as a threshold 27/28. As usual values are purely indicative, try as you wish, and set the values with which you are better. Maybe ask other users logged on as you feel
    • "Hardware volume" (4), in this slide change the value of your microphone input (which will change automatically to the control panel of your sound card), I recommend the "half way" so you do not incur a distortion of voice or a kind of "clipping". In any case there are microphones and microphones, set a value that allows your voice to be clean. To see how others hear you click "Test" immediately below "Monitor". The slide Amplify inbound and outbound, are amplifications that are made, respectively, incoming and outgoing communications, if you say it feels just your voice, increase outbound, if you hear little other raised the inbound. Obviously make sure that the volume of your speakers is adequately high, then the first to raise the increased volume of inbound system. In turn before lifting the outbound maybe raise a little too "Hardware volume" (4), without ever going over three quarters of the slide, otherwise you might be sending wrong.

The best way is to experiment, however, if someone online, maybe log on, and experiment simultaneously, bearing in mind that while you are in the "setup" the others can not hear.
