    Suspicious Activity - HDD Space

    Hello Everyone!

I have a question, which has been mysteriously killing me for a while. I use a Laptop with Windows Vista installed in it. I have only one partition and the free space keep changing everyday. One day I saw that about 11GB of space was available and the very next day I see that only 6 MB of space is available. I didn't download any software or anything and this happened. Today I see again that 10 GB of space is free. What is happening to my machine? Is someone watching it remotely, using it in someway? How can I find it? Is there some services that is running behind the OS that is causing this to happen? Please advice me....This is making me wonder if my privacy is being compromised...

    Awaiting your responses....

    Thanks in Advance!
    Sid!

Check to see if you have any files you've forgotten about hiding in your computer! You can use the Search facility, specifying that you want to look for files over 200MB, say.

Also have a complete scan of your computer to see if it is infected or not.

Is it happening in your C drive or in the drive in which your OS is installed? I have seen that sometimes this happens to my C drive also while using some big application. When the application is closed, the free space again comes to its normal. So check this.

Also check if there is anything in the recycle bin. You might be deleting files from recycle bin and then you may be getting your actual free space.

    hi
you have one partition this is little inconvenient. This problem is might due to temp file .so keep organize your file and run scan disk and Defragmentation for drive .

Thanks Glenny- I accounted the space after adding the hidden files and folders

Thanks Raine - I do have only one partition and that is where my OS is installed...I tried closing all applications and I didn't see a change in the space..but so far I haven't see an increase or decrease in the HDD Space..(after my posting)..But i will keep monitoring it..

Thanks Macarenas - I will run the disk cleanup utility to see if addresses the same...
