Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 installation failed

I have Windows XP Professional SP2. I am trying to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 but after few steps of installation, it says setup.exe has stopped working and need to close. I get the message as installation has failed with an error code 1603. Please help me in this matter.

    Error code: ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE

    Value: 1603

Description: A fatal error occurred during installation.

    Solutions:

    1. SYSTEM account permissions: Restrictive permissions on the SYSTEM account can prevent the installation.
    2. Free disk space on the target: Don't have enough space on the target system
    3. Bad file download (file length, proxy configuration): File may be corrupted

This error code means that the update was not installed either due to corrupted .NET Framework installation or by an inconsistency on the MSI database state. To solve this, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer.

    • Remove the .NET Framework:
      • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
      • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
      • Uninstall the .NET Framework.
      • When you are prompted, restart the computer.

    • Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state:
      • Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
      • Install it as an administrator or as a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
      • Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Cleanup.
      • In the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, remove all Windows Installer applications for the .NET Framework.

    • Restart the computer.
    • Download and then reinstall the .NET Framework that was previously installed on the computer.
    • When you are prompted, restart the computer.
