Suffering from 100% cpu overload

I am having a weird problem from couple of days. As soon as I connect to the internet with my modem, my system suffers from 100% cpu overload causing my system to work slowly. I discovered that svchost.exe was using most of the cpu in the task manager. This happens only when connecting to modem but not otherwise.

I disconnected the modem and rebooted my system and didn't found that problem about 3 hours of continuous usage. I thought that it could be some virus activity so ran a full system scan but no gain.

I googled a lot and found this site. A description of Svchost.exe in Windows XP Professional Edition. So ran tasklist /svc on command prompt and checked the services involved with it but didn't found anything useless.

What should I do now?

Could you tell us what the programs were listed when you ran tasklist /svc on command prompt?

I was having the same problem about a month ago but found a solution. It seems to be a service was trying to start again and again but was unsuccessful. This attempt was creating the cpu overload.

Go to services.msc and disable that particular service and your CPU will run as normal.
