    mstsc /admin command queries

    Hi guys,

I am reading through the link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947723. I am unclear about some behaviour of the mstsc /admin command and would like to clarify with you guys.

    As stated in the article,

When you connect to a server that has Terminal Server installed
If a member of the Administrators group starts a Remote Desktop session to a Windows Server 2008-based server that has the Terminal Server role service installed, they must use the /admin switch to connect to a session to remotely administer the server. The following conditions are true for the session:
    1) You do not have to have a TS CAL to remotely administer a terminal server.
    2) Time zone redirection is disabled.
    3) Terminal Services Session Broker redirection is disabled.
    4) Plug and Play device redirection is disabled.
    5) The remote session theme is changed to Windows Classic.
    6) Terminal Services Easy Print is disabled.

Can i check with you guys if i am correct to say the the conditions is true only if a user remote log in to a RDS (win2k8 R2) server using mstsc /admin and he is a member of the administrators group on that RDS server?

What if a user who is a non-administrator on that RDS server use mstsc /admin to log on?

Hope guys can help with this

    Regards

    Re: mstsc /admin command queries

By default, only Administrators can connect to the console session remotely, with "mstsc /console" (rdp client 6.0 or earlier) or "mstsc /admin" (rdp client 6.1). TS has a WMI provider which allows you to change the default setting. An easy way to access the WMI provider is with the WMI Command-line (WMIC) utility. More suggestions given here.
