MBR repair / restore, Toshiba Satellite notebook PC?

Sigh, I can not figure out how to repair/restore the MBR on my Toshiba
Satellite notebook PC. Used to be easy with WinXP, I just popped in my
legal copy of WinXP and chose the option, or in a command prompt typed
fixmbr. But with Vista and a Toshiba laptop that has recovered CDs
(two) I am clueless. I have tried the recovery CD, but it looks like
it wants to toast the system, wipe everything, to do this. No option
    to restore MBR.

This all came about when earlier today I installed XUbuntu Linux 8.04.
But I want linux off my system, it is gone, but its GRUB bootloader
remains. I can boot into Windows VISTA, but I would prefer to just get
rid of that linux grub bootloader and restore the Vista MBR
bootloader. But how do I fix the Vista MBR using recovery CDs that
came with the laptop? Sigh. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Why VistaBootPRO?

Chances are you're here because you're running Windows Vista and want to do
one of two things. Install a second OS or manage your boot configuration
without directly editing the BCDEdit file. As you likely now realize,
Windows Vista has made this task somewhat complicated for most users.
VistaBootPRO was developed to make changes to the Windows Vista Boot
Configuration Data (BCD) registry quickly and easily, doing the job in a
fraction of the time it would take using the alternative. The only other way
to edit the BCD is to use the command prompt application "bcdedit.exe,"
located in the Windows\system32 folder of Windows Vista, which requires
users to become familiar with the ins and outs of the bcdedit.exe switches
and options, leaving many frustrated users in its path. VistaBootPRO allows
users to easily and neatly organize their boot configuration entries from
    within all flavors of Windows.

Can you start from a bootable USB-stick? If so, you can download
http://jawade.nl/binaries/KDM604.zip and put it on the stick.
startup from the stick and start KDM.com. Now it shows you the
MBR of the first drive. To rebuild the MBR press 'b' and to save
it press 'F2', Shift-J and Shift-A. Ready. No warranty.

If you can do a download, try the Vista recovery disk downloadable
    as a .ISO file from:
    http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/window...disc-download/ .
You can burn it to CD with IsoRecorder (a free download on the Web)
or with a number of free and paid-for burning utilities. With the recovery
environment, you can run "bootrec /fixmbr" from the command prompt.
