    winload.exe file missing or corrupt

    I started my computer and the following error code came up right after boot:

    Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
    cause. . .

    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status:0xc000000f
    Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is
    missing or corrupt.

    The only thing that I did was install the new Windows Updates that they
    provided the night before. I cannot get into windows or system restore or
    'revert to previous configuration' and I have tried to boot off of my
    Windows Vista DVD but it will not let me.
    Hopefully someone can help me.

    After to have already installed Mac OS X on my portable one (in dual boot
    with Windows Vista and Fedora 8) and having under way Seen Windows in order
    to control that all it was working, I have found a rather strange error.
    Just I have received the message that follows: " (winload.exe error)
    -----
    <answer>
    It releases the hunting to the problem. After a Pò of googolare and some
    test with some live-disk gnu/linux, the problem comes found in one absence
    of the flag of boot of the partition windows united to a wrong settaggio of
    the archives of configuration of the bootloader of windows. As far as the
    reactivation of the flag of boot the roads they are multiple:
    ....
    Diskpart way { - you start the disc of installation of Seen Windows; -
    selected the information for localization; - you start the restoration
    procedure; - you start the prompt of the commandos; -
    "DISKPART list disk";
    - "DISKPART select disk n";
    - "DISKPART list partition";
    - "DISKPART select partition n";
    - "active DISKPART";
    - "riavviate DISKPART
    exit" and. }
    To this point it does not remain that to correct the archives of
    configuration of the bootloader of windows: - you start the disc of
    installation of Seen Windows; - selected the information for localization; -
    you start the restoration procedure; - you start the prompt of the
    commandos; - "bcdedit.exe /enum" in order to visualize the running
    archives; - "bcdedit.exe /set {default} device partition=C:" in place of
    "C:" inserted your partition windows; - "bcdedit.exe /set {default} osdevice
    partition=C:" in place of "C:" inserted your partition windows; - riavviate.
    Seen Windows hour would have to be started without some problem.

    Booting from the DVD works fine, but who do we talk to in order to get the
    problem fixed? If the error only occurs when updates are installed, then
    there has to be some corruption in the update. I have turned off Windows
    Update until Microsfot finds a solution...

    Re: winload.exe file missing or corrupt

    I will be disabling Windows Update until a resolution is found. It appears
    that my Pc runs fine until after I install the latest Updates. I can restore
    from the DVD with no problem, but it's a hassle to have to do so after
    Microsoft Updates

    Re: winload.exe file missing or corrupt

    This is seriously messed up as I have had to do this twice in the last week
    now. After the first time it happened I had to do a complete rebuild of my
    main PC as I could not get any of the repair options to work on the install
    DVD.

    I have now installed both 32bit Vista Home Premium & Ultimate as I am
    totally fed up with this on 2 different HD's as this way if one goes down
    you can boot the other OS to copy the file across (after a lot of wrangling
    with security etc etc).

    Definately broken after an update from MS last week. Sorry do not know which
    one but suspect it may have been the one which is supposed to help MS detect
    illegal copies of Vista (and yes both my copies are fully legal and
    activated).

    You guys need to look into this

    Re: winload.exe file missing or corrupt

    Updated to say that instead of copying the winload.exe over again I tried to
    do a disk check on the volume instead from my other Vista install and that
    has fixed it so looks like an issue with Vista either not caching this file
    properly or the update has broken it by being too draconian in thinking that
    if you have a dual boot vista system it is not legal!

    I have the exact same problem and unfortunately I have had to resort to the
    same solution.. I have disabled auto-update until a solution is found..
