I deleted the dvd/cd rom icon from the "Computer" window...

....and can't get it back. I think there may be a bug in Vista. Twice now,
when drawing the cursor across an Icon in the "Computer" window, the cursor
has picked up the Icon and when it slid under the frame of the window, the
file and/or device disappeared from the computer. It did not go into the
trash. It just vanished. In the case of the file, I was able to restore it
from a removable drive. In the case of my DVD-CD Rom, I have tried System
Restore, System Repair, uploading a driver (Can't find how to do this
sucessfully). The Driver Icon shows in the System File, but I can't activate
it. When I try to Recover it, Vista tells me "Windows cannot load the device
driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39).
I need a driver for OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7530 ATA. Haven't had any luck
finding it on the web. And, I can't do a Restore, because my backup is on a
    CD Rom! Please Help!

You cannot delete the icon. If you move it, you get a shortcut. Try right
clicking on the window and choose refresh. Check the View settings & Tools,
Folder Options, too. Another place to check is Organize, Layout menu in the
Computer Window. Select the Navigation Pane to see an Explorer view.
CD/dvd drives do not have drivers. They are controlled by Vista: cdrom.sys.
You were trying to download and install a firmware update--don't do that
without support tech's help. Have you check the Hardware Device Manager for
problems with the drive? You can remove the device in hardware manager and
reboot to see if Windows reinstalls it.
