    Epson Scanners

Very few are Vista compatible, so if you own one and go Vista, plan on a new
scanner (Epson is always behind and expects you to buy new.

Not true. Have you visited the EPSON website lately? I did this morning
    and
they have new drivers ready for a lot of products. Don't condem a company
    with
hearsay or with what you think. ACT first, then speak.

    Re: Epson Scanners

I've visited their web site regularly because they promissed 'they
    would provide
drivers for MOST Epson products once Windows Vista is available at
    retail stores'.
Well, at least Epson doesn't provide a Vista driver for my Epson
    Perfection 610 scanner.

There are 15 scanners enlisted at the new Vista driver page, and the
    Epson's driver
download page shows more than 30 scanner models.(I didn't count the
    exact number)
Now I don't know the definition of 'MOST'.

According to the Epson website my Epson Perfection 1660 scanner will never have
    vista drivers.

well here is one after thinking now act.

was told several times over the past year that when vista was released would get drivers for my multi 3810.
now looking at the to be supported list there is a 37xx and 39xx series but no 38xx series.

    bye bye epson.
    so long hp and lexmark.

I have a question about how you got the CX4800 to install in Vista. I have the X86 version of Vista Ultimate. I am trying to follow your directions but I'm sure I did something wrong. If I leave the printer off and try to add printer, it tries to put it on an LPT or virtual port. If I turn it on and let it detect, it tells me that there is no compatible Vista driver. I am fairly computer literate but new to Vista. Can you explain in a little more detail? I would appreciate it.

Chupacabra, I have a USB printer. It never even acted like I wanted to install a USB printer. I'll try again with compatibility mode and see what happens.

Epson 610 and Vista works with these drivers

    Hi all,

download and install the perfection 640 Vista drivers and
select that driver in Device Manager / Actions...

Your pc will recognize your 610 as a 640.
    scans perfectly!!

    scan button works.

by default, the whole page is scanned and Windows Picture Gallery opens the scanned document.
I can work in it from there.

Personally, i preffer Presto! Page Manager so i scan from that program and
in File/Select input Source, i select perfection 640 and the scanner scans perfectly from that application also...

Worth a try U guyz.... it works.

    GoodLuck Y'uAll

    :-)

Epson Perfection 610 Scanner and Vista

I could not get the 640 driver to work for my 610 scanner. My PC seemed to only "half-recognize" the existence of the scanner. (Don't ask me to explain, as I probably can't without screen-shots.)

But assuming you can't find a good Vista-compatible replacement scanner for $39.95 or less, there's a purchaseable solution at:

    http://www.hamrick.com/

Their VueScan software enabled me to run my Epson Perfection 610 on my 64-bit Vista PC with no problems. The downside is that the software cost me $39.95. The upside is that my scanner now works on my machine (I don't have to rely on my wife's XP laptop for scanning tasks), and the VueScan software has some nice features (rapid batch scanning, scanning multiple images into one .pdf file, etc.) that many people may find useful.
