How to Install Filezilla on Mac

Set up your FileZilla (Mac OS X 10.5+)

    First: Download and Install FileZilla
Once you have downloaded it just install the FileZilla in your computer. But before that just see to it that the version which you have download should match with your computer configuration (Intel, PowerPC G4). Now when you try to download the FileZilla setup file you need to select Run the file and not Save.

    Second: Configure FTP Settings

    Enter the following information:
    • Host: yourdomain.tld (without the "www.")
    • Username: [your FTP username]
    • Password: [your FTP password]
    • Port: [leave this field blank]

    Click Quickconnect.
If you see "Status: Directory listing successful" congratulations, you're connected to your website via FTP!

    Third: Save FTP Settings
    1. Click the File menu.
    2. Click "Copy current connection to Site Manager..."
    3. Type a name for this connection
    4. Click OK

    Fourth: Optional

This setting adjustment may help FileZilla maintain its connection to your website's FTP server.
    1. Click the FileZilla menu.
    2. Click "Preferences..."
    3. On the left pane click Transfers
    4. On the right change "Timeout in seconds:" to 9999

Now that FileZilla is installed and configured you can upload files to your hosting account.

    Fifth: Upload files with FileZilla

On the left side you will find files on your Mac and on the right side you will find files on the hosting account.
Now if you need you can also make the title Filename big on either sides just by expanding the window, by doing this you will come to know which file or which folder you are planning to select and then click it. Now on the right hand side, just try an open public_html by clicking or double-clicking on it. Now after doing this you will find the file and folder on left hand side which you would like to upload.

Now here it can be a bit confusing for you to see the folder icon which is there below the title “Local site” and you wont be able to find your own files. As the first seen folder is your hard disk. So double click on that folder icon.

As soon as you click the folder Users the address bar now displays: /Users/ - this helps you keep track of which folders and files you are looking at on your own computer.

Usually to find the files you look for, you need to open folder Users, then in that folder find the folder on your Mac with your name on it, then open it.
In the sample case there are 3 folders: Shared, martinreinert and mykids.
Yours will be: Shared, and then the names of the users created on your Mac.
Now keep browsing untill you get the files/folders that you want to upload on the server
When you found one or more files then drag the files from your computer on the left and drop them to your hosting account on the right. You will see how the transfer takes place.

Now you can select to check by opening the browser and see your site at the same time when the files are being transferred but yes do remember that there should be no cache in your browser, so if there are no cache then you would be able to see the latest updates of your site and not the old one.

When you have updated/uploaded what you want just close the program.
