Outlook:Send files up to 2GB with YouSendIt

While emailing some large files from Outlook, IT dept limits attachments to 10MB or lower. But what if we need to send files upto 1GB or more ? So there is an solution, It is an add-on called YouSendIt. This add-on works in Outlook 2003 and above.

    With YouSendIt, you can :-
    • Send unlimited 2GB files and folders with advanced options like password protection and certified delivery.
    • Receive files as large as 2GB each with a customized Dropbox complete with your branding.
    • Advanced file delivery tracking so you know who has downloaded each file and when.

services like YouSendIt involves you to go to the site, enter information like Name, Email Address, File to Upload etc and the service sends an email to the recipient with a download link to the file. However, an easier way for Microsoft Outlook users is by using the YouSendIt Outlook Plugin. Using the YouSendIt Outlook Plugin, you can send large files directly from Outlook without worrying about the mail bounce notification or Microsoft Exchange server slowness.

After you install YouSendIt, restart Outlook and you will notice the YouSendIt button with a drop down menu for signing in, configuring settings, and getting support. You need to log into your account to start using this plug-in.The very cool thing is they allow a 14 day free trial for a pro, business, or corporate account. This allows you to send up to 2GB files and various total usage amounts per month at different rates.

After the trial you are downgraded to YouSendIt Lite which should be adequate for individual use. To send a file with YouSendIt, just compose a message and include that large attachment as you normally would. You will have a confirmation message pop up and just click Yes and your file is sent. While the file is being uploaded to the YouSendIt servers there is a couple of things to take note. There will be a progress bar and abort option where the plug-in button is at.

Also you will notice a YouSendIt Outbox. The plug-in also includes support so you can contact the company with any problems, make sure to turn on logging to send diagnostic files for easier troubleshooting.

Traditionally, using YouSendIt required you to visit the site, complete a routing form, and wait around while your file(s) uploaded. With the desktop app or any of the plug-ins, you get to bypass your browser entirely. They also promise 25-percent faster uploads.

Thats sounds great. But if we talk about receiver's inbox size, receiver will just get an email with a link that points to the YouSendIt servers where they can download the file. It is not trying to cram a 100MB attachment into their email.
