The tip I am providing you will help you to quickly and easily search or find a lost file within your computer system. Here is the trick for the fatsest way to search for a particular file on your computer system.

Generally you try to search a particular file with available file extensions such as word file, you type .doc, for Excel .xls, for Acrobat .pdf, .ppt and .exe for executable system files. Consider that if you unknown with a missing file extension or you forgot that particulat file extension then what you will do?
If you forgot the known name of a file but just know that the file contains a string of text then you can try in order to search for files which contains some specified text, the type the text which will help you to find from any file or folder exixting in your computer system.

This is a bit time consuming process but it will help you to create a very positive result. In option Look in, just click on the drive, and then select folder or select network you need to search for. In order to reduce time, Try selecting the specific drive or location instead of selecting the entire computer system.


Just click on Start Button, then select on point to Search, and then click for required File or Folders, a Search Results for dialog box will appear on your screen. In Searching for files or folders name, try to type the file name or folder name which you want to search for in containing text.


In order to specific search criteria, just on click Search Options available, and then click on one or more options for narrow search:

  • You can also Select Date to view files that are created or modified between certain dates.
  • You can also Select Type to view files of a certain type, such as a text or WordPad document format.
  • You can also Select Size to view files of a certain size.
  • You can also Select Advanced Options to view additional search criteria.
  • Just Click on Search now.
