Very easy to create a ZIP archive with Vista. First in a Windows Explorer window, select the files to be included in the archive. Click on a file with the right mouse button. Note that the archive will receive the name of the file you've clicked. In the menu that appears, put the mouse over Send To and finally click with the mouse button on Compressed Folder.

This feature is also present in Windows XP. In Windows XP, you can disable / re-activate this feature by using the commands in a console window:
    regsvr32 / u zipfldr.dll (disable), regsvr32 zipfldr.dll (to reactivate).
The installation of certain software compression / decompression can also turn off zip XP.
