How to delete mails from mailbox in Mac?

Hi Dear, does anyone know how to fix Mac mail problems; I got this wonderful notebook as a gift on my birthday. I am still learning how to operate it. I have B.T. as my internet service provider and I have my mail accounts with Gmail & Yahoo. I am able to receive and send mails but the problem is I am unable to delete any of my mail boxes. Now this is a gift so I don’t have the user manual with me, so is anyone willing to help this old lady. I would be really grateful

As you told that you are able to send and receive mails that mean your internet is working properly, the problem could be either with your email service provider or email client. You haven’t mention that you are not able to delete you mailbox in email service provider or email client. If it’s your email client you’re facing problem with than we can solve, the reason for asking your email service provider is as a few I Map accounts mailboxes are duplicated on the server and cannot be deleted or moved from within Mac Mail.

Yes dear, I am using client Mac mail, and I want to delete mail boxes in the Mac mail client. And my operating system is OSx. I have done several inbuilt diagnostics but still I am unable to come to any conclusion. Do you think my operating system might have gone bad as I had dropped my notebook once, do you think that’s the problem. Do you think I should consult a technician; they are pretty costly here though. I apologize for asking you so many questions, but thank you dear.

Thank you for that information, what you need to do now is from your Mac Mail Menu Bar click Mailbox/Take All Accounts Online, after doing that try to delete an e-mail. See if its allowing you to click on any e-mail you want to delete if yes than right click on the email you want to delete or select the e-mail then from the Menu Bar click Edit/Delete and check if its deleting or not. Most probably it should work

Hello you can also try this go to Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors to check if it is selected to move deleted messages to another folder? If not, then they remain in the original mailbox, and if in View it is set to Show Deleted Messages, what you report would be the standard result. Try repairing permissions. Open Disk Utility from Utilities select your Macintosh HD towards the left and select "repair permissions" from the selection drop down list. It will take some time to finish. This should solve your issue.

Hello dear, I did as you guided me, the disk utility is the CD which you get with the notebook right. Ok I did open disk utilities and went on to click on repair permission and the wizard begun and it started doing something, and as you said it did take quite a long time but finally it was worth it as I can now delete the mails I no longer need. Thank you, I appreciate for you being so temperament. I really got assistance with your help.
