Traffic Sources google.com

When I verify the traffic sources for my site then I found that there were just 6 visitors from search engines but when I verify the Top Traffic Sources record then I found that there are total 25 direct visitors in which 12 were from google.com (referral) and 6 from google.it (referral) and 4 from google.ca (referral), etc. I am searching that what is the meaning of the "referral" that is given in the brackets. I want to ask that how these visitors as of search engines approach to my site. Why it says that I have just 6 visitors as of search engines, when in fact I had 12 as of google.com, 6 as of google.it, 4 as of google.ca. Please reply.

I do not have any idea about this but there is one possibility that they may have came from the Google and they are not counted in the total list of the visitors. I am not saying that this is the exact reason for that but this is one of the possible reasons for this. If you need to get more accurate reason for that then the best way for you is to contact the Google and ask then for this. I am sure that you will get more accurate answer from them.

If you see under Top Traffic sources then you will see "View Full Report". Click on that and you will be able to see the number of the visitors that came from the organic search engine results. The visits might be from several search engines similar to yahoo, organic, bing, google etc. The referral visits are added up like 'Referring sites' traffic and not the search engines traffic.

I would like to tell you that the referral traffic is nothing but the Trafic as of iGoogle. It may be somebody who is making use of RSS within the iGoogle interface. It is traffic as of Google image search. It looks incorrect but the image search is not registered like search engine by means of the keyword used. Therefore sites by means of many pictures through fine filenames will get lots of visits through Google like referral.

There are some sites that gives search bar to perform search intended for some information. Many of the times the search is given by Google Search. So all the visits that are coming to the sites by means of the search result will be taken as referral visits as of Google. And this is the reason that you are getting problems in total number counts of the visitors. I hope that this will give you some idea that why this is happening to you.
