My htm documents are lost and icons turned to Firefox icon

I was having some of the HTML files on my system on the hard drive. I had some of the files having the extension as .html and .htm. Now the thing is that I have seen that all those files have lost there extensions and they now just have the icons changed to the FIREFOX icon. Please let me know what could be the valid reason for this here. I had not done anything and had just seen then working last night but in the morning the icons had just changed here.

There is really no issue with this and let me tell you that this happens some times if you are using the Windows XP operating system. Also in addition to that see if you can open the files that you have there and see if you can open them and that too without any issue there. Please let me know about the same in the case above there. Hope that your files must have not corrupted. You can try to do one more thing if you want you can try to change the name and feed in the extension and see if that can restore the icon there. Please let me know if that really helped.

It does not depend on the Windows or any of it version. Well let me tell you that if you have the default browser as the Internet Explorer then you must have seen that this files may be having the icon same as Internet Explorer. You must have installed Firefox or for sure you must have installed update for the Firefox and hence you must have seen the icon changing there. It will be really great if you can try to open the files and then open it using the Internet Explorer I am sure that you will see the icon getting changed there. Let me know what it resulted in your case there.

In case of the extensions let me tell you that if you want to have the solution then you can open the Windows Explorer. All you have to do is go in the Tools option at the top and then go in the Folder Option there. Then go to the View and select the Hide extensions option for known file types there and see if that can solve the issues of yours there. After this you will be able to see the extensions for the files there. See if this really works for you there.

In the Windows XP it happens and let me tell you that there is no issue with the files getting opened. Right Click on the .html file and then select open with option there. After that select the Browse Option and chose the Internet Explorer there and then check the option Always use the selected option to open the files that you will get at the bottom and then you will see that you will have the Internet Explorer icon on that files there. Hope that you liked the suggestions that I made here.
