    Downloads Stops Randomly

I am facing a strange problem while downloading on internet I'm using Windows XP Pro SP 2. When I tried downloading any file which is above 20 Mb some point randomly freeze up. Both in the firefox 3.0.5 and in internet explorer, if the downloads are somewhere over 40 mb, it stops making progress partway. The download window looks like its still downloading, but the file does not continue to increase in size, then after a little while ends as a corrupted file. What can be the solution to fix my problem?

Your problem can be fixed if you perform a virus scan on your machine, if you have not tried it. You can also try booting in to Safe Mode with Networking (when your PC turns on, keep pressing the F8 functional key until you get some options, and choose "Safe mode with Networking"). also you can try to disable your anti virus and then download a file from the website see if the problem is resolved using this solution.

you can follow the solution mention as:
Try to disable your Anti Virus.
Plugged in a different NIC(Network interface card).
    Try a different ethernet cable.
Troubleshooting (resetting modem, power cycling modem/system, they ran DSL line checks) can be checked.
    Download managers.
Use latest version of Internet Explorer i.e.IE 8.
