    Configuring network help For bsnl

    Hi,
I am using Karmic right now with Nvidia 9500 GPU support and BSNL internet. The BSNL was first configured on Windows and after I sold off my desktop I want to use the same internet connection on Linux now. I have a BSNL Data one internet with DNA A211 1 modem provided by BSNL broadband. I want to properly configure this on Karmic. I need some help here.

You will need to first configure the router. For that open Firefox and then type 192.168.1.1, the user id and password is admin. Then go to the wireless and click on security. Now choose the WPA_PSK under authentication and give a 8 digit password. Click on apply and then click on advance setup. Now to the right side you can see 0/35 as the VPI/VCI value and then click on next. Choose PPP over Ethernet and add the user name password provided you to by BSNL. Save the settings and reboot.

If you are not able to access the router then check out that it is installed in the system or not. For this you have to press 192.168.1.1 which is the default gateway to your router. By this you will get access to the router settings and from here you can configure the same. If the browser does not shows the router page then you can checkout the cable connection.

I am using Linux base system. Try the given command here which might help you to figure out some settings. Run the terminal and then type - sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces. Then properly initiate the following commands. Type auto eth0 and then iface iface eth0 inet static. Provide address 192.168.1.100 and netmask 255.255.255.0 along with network 192.168.1.0. The other command you have to give is broadcast 192.168.1.255 and gateway 192.168.1.1. At the end type sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart. Now try to access 192.168.1.1 via Firefox.

The modem for your broad band internet is configured on your system in two ways. This steps are applicable for both Linux and Windows. The first way is that your modem stays always wall or stay on PPPoE mode. Under this you will need to configure your modem by a user id and password which is provided by the ISP and the other method is bridge mode or dialer connection.

Get network manager for your pc. The network manager 0.7 is nice tool for managing network connections. Once you have installed then to run the same you will have to go in System > Preferences and then Network Configuration. Then simply right click on the network configuration option and then choose the add button to set the launcher. You can simply drag and drop this to notification panel.
