How to setup a 56k modem in MAC

Hi,
For an urgent need I have to setup internet on a old MAC PC. Due to several hardware issue I had only able to locate a 56K modem in that PC. I am not sure about the settings for the same. Does those 56K modems are still available in some current laptops so that I can switch that system with any other system. I need basic setup information on the same.

For setting up the network parameters for your MAC pc you have to go in Network which is located in the System Preferences. Here you will enter all the information provided by your supplier Internet access (ISP) so you can log onto the large canvas on OS X. You can create as many configurations as you want depending on the number of ISP accounts you have and / or types of Internet connections that you are going to use. Once all settings in "Network" done, no need to return, unless you want to create new configurations, modify or delete.

Due to the introduction of new broadband internet it is really hard to find out MAC pc with old 56k internal modem. I am not sure weather the current systems really have this. If you really need a dail up (PSTN) connection then the best way is to get a external usb modem for the MAC PC and then install the same. That is the only simple way to do this.

Yes that is right that you cannot easily get a dialer on MAC pc. That is due to the increase of technology. But you can do one thing is you can share the internet with the older system on the new pc. It is also a bit difficult to set up 56 analog modem on the telephone jack. Get a external modem in that case which is quiet easy to configure and work with most of the systems.

Yes that is right that today MAC PC lac 56K analog modems. But there is a way to setup them on older pc. Here are the steps for the same. When you enter the configuration settings you will need to enter the phone number of your ISP connection (the number that will dial your modem to connect to the Internet) in the Phone. Then enter your Login (identifier) in the Account Name. After that provide the Password and check Show modem status in menu bar.

Note down one thing. When have done with your setting go to the Advance panel for the same. Here you does not touch WINS and proxies. In the modem tab select the type of modem to use drop-down menus Manufacturer and Model. Then choose enable compression and error correction in modem and wait for dial tone before dialing. Now under Dial, choose voice frequencies. Follow the screen instructions.
