Internet disconnection in Netgear wireless n router

Hello, I have recently purchased a Netgear N wireless router which I use to connect to the Internet. I access the Internet by connecting the laptop to the router using Wifi. The laptop is installed with Windows 7 operating system. The problems Internet gets disconnected after 5 minutes when I connect to the router. I have to reconnect to the router again to be able to access the Internet. As I am not so versed in networking I dont have any idea what is causing the problem. Therefore if anybody is facing Internet disconnection in Netgear wireless n router then please share some information which might help me in solving the issue. Thanks in advance.

I think the router which you are using is not configured properly and hence it is not working properly. If the router is not configured properly then the devices which are connected to it will not be able to use all the resources of the network. If the devices are not able to use all the resources of the network then the problems like disconnection arise. Hence login to the router and then check the configuration of the router. Contact the ISP and ask for their assistance in configuring the router. Once the router is configured properly then you will not face problems with disconnection.

The default IP version of Windows 7 operating system is IPv6 which has 128 bit IP address while IPv4 has 32 bit IP address. If the IPv6 support is enabled on the Windows 7 operating system then it wont be able to connect to the network which is working on IPv4 address. To connect the computer working on Windows 7 to the network you will have to disable the IPv6 support. To disable the IPv6 support, go to network connections and then open the TCP/IP properties. In TCP/IP properties, remove the check mark from the IPv6 support and save the settings. Restart the computer and then try to connect to the network.

Contact your Internet service provider and get your link checked. It is possible that the link which is providing bandwidth to the router is flappy and hence the connection is getting disconnected. If the link which is providing the bandwidth is faulty you will face problems like disconnection or decrease in the speed of internet. Get the link checked by the ISP and get the fault rectified if any. Meanwhile you can also check the Internet connectivity by visiting the websites like Speedtest or Pingtest which provide online tests for the link. Perform the tests and then check the performance of the link.

Re: Internet disconnection in Netgear wireless n router

Your laptop may be corrupted by some virus which is creating the internet disconnection problem. Some virus's have the tendency to broadcast unnecessary traffic on the communicating channel. If the communicating channel gets flooded with unwanted traffic then the router blocks the port which is receiving lot of traffic which results in disconnection of the connected device. Hence get the computer scanned by some antivirus and check for infected files. Repair or quarantine the infected files and then check the performance of the computer.
