It is possible that the internet is getting disconnected because the ISP is not able to provide the bandwidth properly. If the link coming from the ISP itself is tripping, the internet will get disconnect and connect after sometime. Connect the laptop using the cable modem and check if the internet is working continuously or not. Use ping command to check the latency of the packets sent and received from the most popular site.

Your router needs to be reset and reconfigured. Reset the router and connect the laptop to it using the console cable or telnet in to the router. Now open the configuration page and check if the configuration you have entered is proper or not. Change the SSID and the authentication password and save the settings. Now restart the router. Once restarted connect to it using wifi. It should work properly if the line is clear. Also check the signal strength in the area in which you are trying to connect to wifi as low signal strength can cause the problem of frequent dropping of line.

Check the Network interface card on your netbook. There is a software loopback address given to every Network interface card which is used for self testing. By default every network card has self test address as "127.0.0.0". To test the network card, click on start menu and select Run. In the blank space type "ping 127.0.0.0". A black window will open which will show packets sent and received. If the network card is not sending or receiving any data then it is faulty and is the root cause of your problem. Changing the NIC will solve the problem.

This can be because of some virus which is broadcasting unnecessary data. Many malicious programs tend to send unnecessary data continuously which floods the channel and causes the line to drop. Scan your system with updated antivirus and check for the infected files which are used in networking applications. Try to repair or quarantine the infected files and check if the internet is working properly or not.

Update the drivers on Wifi on the laptop to latest version available online. After up gradation check if the connection is lost or not. If the problem persists then login in to router either by using console cable or by using hyperterminal. Now open the configuration and check if the authorization is WPA or WEP. If WEP is selected then change it to WPA and save the settings. If it still does not work then ask your ISP to help you out.
