Google has announced the release of its Google Media Server that will help users to connect their TV to the computer. The new Google Media Server is an application for Windows, which is based on Google Desktop technology such as Desktop gadgets for the administration tool and Google Desktop Search to locate media files.
The Windows-only gadget lets you share all the media content indexed by Google Desktop or just the files from some of your folders. Google Media Server can also share some of your Picasa albums (from your computer or from Picasa Web Albums) and the videos uploaded to YouTube.
All you need is a PC running Google Desktop and a Universal Plug n' Play (UPnP)-enabled device (e.g. a PlayStation 3). At the touch of a button you can then:
1. Access videos, music, and photos stored on your PC
2. View Picasa Web Albums
3. Play your favorite YouTube videos
Google Media Server is Google's latest attempt to conquer people's living rooms by roping together disparate consumer electronics devices.
