    Windows 7 User Account Control and Oracle Client

    Hi experts,

    I have been searching the solution for this problem and trying to install any Oracle 10 or 11 client on my latest Windows 7 (64-bit) computer from two days. I visited on so many sites to get the solution but there is not any description regarding this. Do any of you know more about this where I can get it and whether any special steps are needed to complete the installation procedure ?

    Have you tried the same with simple installation or have you installed oracle on earlier windows version. I don't think there should be any difficulties like but one thing can be noticed in such scenario which is that you need to care about one thing that is about the compatibility issues of the processor architecture. When you move to the downloading section of oracle database then you need to care about one thing that is just download only one which is compatible with your system architecture..

    Windows 7 User Account Control and Oracle Client

    I am sure about that whatever you are saying. I have downloaded the proper and compatible software from the downloading basket. This is the small summery of my whole trial :

    I Install 10gR2 and 11gR1(for x64) after downloading from Oracle downloading basket. In each scenario, I launched the setup file from the .zip file and tried again by extracting and launching the setup.exe as the administrator user. Probably, I got the error from the compatibility check that the Oracle install would not work with 6.1 (NT6.1, according to me ).

    I tried one advice of modifying the refhost.xml file to list 6.1 as an acceptable OS, but then my install got failed when oui.exe quit running. I am not sure what the thing that are rest to try. If may be the version compatible with windows 7 that is not a beta?

    Do you still have the error message?

    Don't to that if you only need the client!

    Just because it's not certified, does not indicate that it would not work !

    For this, you need to download the oracle client in this situation. I think, you need to just download the Oracle for Windows "instant client" from the following link here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/sof...ent/index.html

    If may be the version compatible with windows 7 that is not a beta?
    And if you have something error then you need to move for the support personnel. I would open an SR on MOSC and ask to http://metalink.oracle.com Or, just make a call to the your customer service representative, they can consider it up for you issue, If it doesn't work, it's simple to remove .

    The Client software that you are searching for and specially on 64-bit Windows structure can be found here :

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/sof...win64soft.html

    The Oracle Database 11g Release 1 Client (11.1.0.6.0)for Microsoft Windows
    (x64).You may require one hack for getting Oracle to install on Windows 7 operating system. Just move to edit the orapram.ini file and add a section for Windows 7 (6.1).

    We also suffering from the same issue and running with the Oracle client within Windows 7. We terminated up doing the following to get it to work.
    Paths are where our install was - yours may be on another path. We were installing on 32 bit computer so we used the 32 bit client.

    1. We used an previous version of the client install (10.2.0.1) without the patch. Download or otherwise aquire the client software. Using the latest version did not work for us.

    2. I made some editing in refhost.xml file stored at

    <install directory>\client\stage\prereq\client
    Added the following inbetween the <CERTIFIED_SYSTEMS> tags
    <OPERATING_SYSTEM>
    <!--Microsoft Windows 7-->
    <VERSION VALUE="6.1"/>
    </OPERATING_SYSTEM>

    3. Edited the oraparam.ini file stored at
    <install directory>\client\install
    [Certified Versions] - Add 6.1 to this line

    4. On the Machine, change the User Account Control settings.
    Control Panel > System and Security > Action Center > Change User Account

    Control Settings
    Remove the Settings to Never notify

    5. Now, Launch the installer
