Comment on my project of 3D website creation

I am MSc in e-Business, and I have a project / mini memory to do so by August 2010. Here I was suddenly to find my subject for late January.

I thought of a project to create a web site architecture with an interface client / architect customized to the client and with the possibility of implementing the plan of their house in 3D on the site.

But I have no experience and knowledge regarding the 3D (the 3D models I recover them elsewhere, is the implementation on the web that interests me). And after some research I found that what I am trying to do is possible but not easy. Basically I have before 6 months to complete this project. So enough time to learn, but the details are well hidden and I sorely lack of vocabulary in the field to ensure that my research is relevant.

I read that there are two "support" OpenGL and ActiveX. I understand the same time that ActiveX does not work everywhere (Firefox does not support it).

Can anyone suggest me if my project is feasible or not, and if I will be able to achieve it?

I said I am ready to use all that stuff (and other script). I do not intend to create something impossible to do, especially being a beginner. My goal is to make the website and making it easy to use, not to invent other graphics libraries too.

I know almost nothing about 3D, web level, but I think if you want something that goes everywhere, the java will be the easiest. Perhaps with flash also it seems that they have implemented some 3D on the latest versions, but I know what that will give you little.

For the rest nothing good standard and universal yet, not until a few years just to see what gives webGL especially if they happen to all agree on is implemented in the nav

You know what you are doing? You pump the source code of a page that's interesting. You could create your site with an editor (Dreamweaver, TextWrangler) and then study some coding.

But I would rather recommend for 3D flash (applets may pose problem with the security policy of the client) or VRML (if it still exists?).

However you can also go for WebGL if you want but it depends on 3D models and flash happens to be quickly saturated (large max 500 polygons)

Well indeed it is a project that a few intended to push a little technology at our disposal to do something nice. Otherwise a simple video of the 3D model balanced on the web page would suit.

Regarding the WebGL, it is still in prototype stage and we can talk about something specific?

For java I suspected there would be something. But it still require me to find tutorials, docs and more.

For what I saw at the OpenGL and DirectX anyone can enlighten me?

The 3D models of architectural buildings that are created from software (file extension to be determined). Therefore I know if it is possible to implement in a site, and whether it is feasible to power my project it as a stroll in a 1st person camera.

In fact it's almost as if I created a game with basic 3D only move function. Except that I do not really want to create it I'd like to use existing tools to help me create it all.

webGL is more a prototype for now, maybe Firefox 3.6 integrates it via an extension, I think the nicely build of chromium are case also, probably same for safari seen it's webkit, opera I know too much or they are, Microsoft did not speak, they did not even incorporated in the project

DirectX and OpenGL, I do not think it is possible to integrate in a nav and it is precisely the aim of the project webGL, power integrated derivative of OpenGL in a web page

After that if you boot you can really try to look toward webGL (tests already run a few demos, I had tried a few chromium on some time ago), but it will remain for now usable on very very few browsers

For java, I am not sure what it is in 3D, look at how to do it on existing sites from time to time we come across sites offering 3D visualization, mostly for mobile phones, I believes that such technology should be plenty for your project
