Server Management console missing and can't install it.

I was running SBS 2003 with SP1 since long time and it was working fine. Recently I upgraded the same to R2 and since then Server Management is missing. Also there is no launchconsole.exe either. When I went to Server Tools in SBS Setup program, the option for Install Administrator is grayed out. Only ‘None’ and ‘Remove’ options are clickable.

As a workaround I ran adminpak.msi from the CD but it dint helped in any way. Any help will be appreciated.

RE: Server Management console missing and can't install it.

I think you should try reinstalling Small Business Server 2003 Console again, it will surely fix the problem. Just follow these steps to do the same:

    • Log on as an administrator to your SBS 2003 computer.
    • Insert Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 CD-ROM 1 into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
    • Click Start, and then click Run.
    • In the Open box, type the path of the Setup.exe file on the SBS 2003 CD-ROM 1, and then click OK. Alternatively, click Browse, navigate to the Setup.exe file on SBS 2003 CD-ROM 1, click Open, and then click OK.
    • In the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Setup Wizard, click Set Up Windows Small Business Server.
    • On the Welcome to Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Setup page, click Next.
    • On the Setup Requirements page, click Next.
    • On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
    • On the Component Selection page, click the down-arrow next to Server Tools in the Action list, and then click Maintenance.
    • In the Action list, click the down-arrow next to Administration, and the click Reinstall.
    • Click Next, and then on the Components Summary page, click Next.
    • On the Finishing Your Installation page, click Finish.
    • Click OK to restart your computer.
    • Log on as the administrator to complete the installation.

As per my knowledge the network setting will definitely change with then re-Installation of the Server Management Console. But still i will advise you to refer the manual of the Server Management Console and MSDN that provide on the Microsoft.
