    G. Skill Perfect Storm DDR3 Ram

    G. Skill is a leading manufacturer of memory based in Taipei. All their products go through a series of tests more stringent to ensure reliability and quality. They provide superior memory products and satisfactory services in order to keep pace with there customers' growing needs, and help there customers in adding value to their products. Today we will test a triple channel kit specially designed for Intel X58 platforms, kit of the new series "Perfect Storm" of the manufacturer, serial high-end equipped with a powerful cooling system consists of two fans and a system for fixing simplified. "

The kit F3-16000CL9 incorporates SPD (Serial Presence Detect) configured according to the JEDEC standard: DDR3 1333MHz with timings of 9-10-10-25. The SPD also includes two other profiles also confirms to the JEDEC standard: 1186Mhz 8-9-9-22 and 1482Mhz 10-11-11-27. This relatively low frequency and very relaxed timings to ensure compatibility with all motherboards and processors. A G. Skill kit are also fitted a profile XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles), does not confirm to JEDEC standards. It allows the motherboard to automatically adjust to formal specifications determined by G. Skill. XMP profile of G. Skill F3-16000CL9 is 2000 MHz 9-9-9-24. Kit Perfect Storm 2000CL7 offer him an XMP profile set to 2000 MHz 7-8-7-20.

Before the test itself, it must know that to reach 2000 MHz memory frequency, you will also have to overclock your Core i7 to 4 GHz. Frequency not always attainable in aircooling for all processors do not support as you can very well get a CPU with a bad memory controller. You will need to adjust between 1.45 V and 1.6 V to be perfectly stable at this frequency.

    Testing and overclocking

We had tested this kit with a maximum voltage of 1.65 V, voltage limit set by Intel. According to Intel, no degradation of the integrated memory controller of the Core i7. We tested the bandwidth of memory using Super Pi 32M, software enough chunk of memory and is also quite reactive in case of error. We also used the memory benchmark integrated software Everest.

The various tests were conducted at frequencies of 1200 MHz, 1600 MHz and 2000 MHz and with different memory timings 7-7-7-20, 8-8-8-22, 9-9-9-24 ultimately 10 -10-10-24.

It may be noted that the G. Skill kit yet certified with timings of 9-9-9-24 has no problem keeping a stable 7-7-7-18, without increasing the vDIMM kit as above range of manufacturer certified 7-8-7-20. But as you have seen in the architecture of the Core i7 tight timings at 2 GHz have much less influence on the memory bandwidth that the increasing frequency of the DDR3 six seconds gains from a Cl 10 Cl 8 a but 34 seconds of winning the Super 32 Pi by increasing the frequency of the DDR3 to 1200MHz at 2 GHz.

And finally here is the maximum thrust RAM 2172Mhz at 7-8-7-22 in, overclocking limited by the frequency of Uncore Core i7 up to 4344Mhz, which under our Tuniq Tower 120.

    Conclusion

Since the release of Core i7, we were likely to be afraid to increase the voltage above 1.65 V imposed by Intel, an increase that could irreversibly damage the controller memory of our dear processors. G. Skill has released triple channel kits can hold at frequencies above 2000MHz retaining the limit of 1.65 V but also maintaining fairly tight timings. Elpida chips are highly capable of 2000MHz with 7-7-7-18 hold at 1.65 V where Microns D9GTR, the oldest leaders in DDR3, asked almost 2.2 V. It was a slightly higher voltage if we wanted to preserve a minimum our CPU. Therefore a good point for the manufacturer G.
