    Introduction

For EUR 245 (EIA) offers the Yamaha iPod Soundsystem PDX-50. Particular feature is the wireless signal between iPod / iPhone and the speaker. The result is that the iPod is not in a dock in the middle of the speaker, is usually as usual, but just a small wireless transmitter at the bottom of the system interface to connect - and it works out the wireless signal between the transmitter and receiver. As for the visually attractive PDX-50 will operate in practice, see the following test report.

    Suitable for iPod

    Suitable for iPhone

    Processing

Good in detail with only slightly varying gap dimensions

Interesting contrast of plastic with easy housing and the framework above and the high-gloss surface-structured

    Good friction speaker guard

    Resembling acting Dongle

The PDX-50 would not be a typical Yamaha product when we get the processing would not be convincing. The interesting design on the housing surface is very clean and offers an integrated personal touch. The fabric mesh is precise and does not give rise to wrinkles. Even the little dongle and the receiver unit, connected to the iPhone or the iPod is inserted, are accurately built together. Overall processing in relation to the price category: very good - excellent.

    Equipment / Technology
The idea is brilliant: Where other manufacturers provide the iPod or iPhone in a dock set, which in turn directly into the sound station, is another way Yamaha. There is a unity as the speaker, which of two other components. First, the small transmitter unit from the system interface with your iPod or iPhone contact recording and wireless transmission (Yamaha jargon AIR WIRED, "wireless PCM signal without latency) of the signal over the loudspeaker, and the little dongle into the the transmitter can be latched. If the sending unit along with the iPhone or iPod dongle, iPod or iPhone will be loaded automatically. The dongle is on a compact power supply with a socket on. Another power is supplied to the speaker with the power to connect. The built-in speaker amplifiers are 2 x 15 watts of power available. The assembled speaker Chassis broadband have a size of 2 x 8 cm. The frequency response ranges from 60 Hz to 20 kHz. In black or gray, the system is available. The Sound Station weighs 1.7 kilograms and has dimensions of (W x H x D) 350 x 128 x 125 mm.

The transmitter is simply up to the iPhone or iPod

With the iPhone 3G 16 GB and a 4 GB iPod Nano of the last generation to work the PDX-50 with no difficulties. Since the Sound Dock officially licensed accessories for the iPhone is, there are no disruptions or problems. While the music is running, you can on the iPhone SMS to write or check the calendar. Very clever: The volume control on speakers is synchronized with the volume control of the iPod - so you can gain the comfort of your couch on iPhone or iPod regulate. Overall in relation to the price class: Excellent - the PDX-50 is a real innovation, even if we at least the basic sound control options (height, depth) are missing. To reduce the controls on a centrally placed volume control.

Re: Yamaha PDX-50 Wireless iPod Docking Station

    Great info!
How much does the dongle on the iPod weigh? It looks like it has a battery inside. If so, does the cradle charge both the dongle and the iPod?
Finally, how long does the battery last?
