My iMac Screen Freezes after 10.6.3 update

I have been using iMac since four week and the problem that I was facing after the 10.6.3 update was that the screen kept crashing and I had to reboot the machine every time after that and I was ignoring it so far but today the screen has gone black and there are whites lines in between as well. I don’t know what to do know I have found that the fans and hard disk are still running but then I am not getting response from the keyboard or mouse presses. I have also tried to reboot it but now it comes up with the same every time. Is there anyone who has faced the same and has an idea about it and can help me out as well? Any help regarding this will be appreciated.

Even I have been facing such problems where the screen used to get freeze but then I heard that that problem is due to the distorted applications that might be running and making the system hang and get freeze as well. I have also tried to get other OSX upgrade as well and I have done several reboots as well but the problem is still the same. Previously I was thinking that the problem is because of some kind of memory leak in the firefox but after know hearing the actual cause of it I am trying to find out the offending app but I have not yet came across it. Your case seems to be different I mean that you have said that you are getting some kind of black screen with white lines. If possible can you just post a snap of it so we can make out what exactly you are facing?

You can try out to reset the pram and in order to do so just follow the below steps:

• Reboot your mac.
• Just after that press the Command+Option+P+R keys.
• After that you will hear the Mac reboot sound again which will mean that the PRAM has been reset.
• And to get it work just hit the key combination before you get the Grey screen.

Just try this out and then see if it is making any difference and let me know what you get.

If the above solution does not work for you then you can try out Resetting the SMC:

• Turn off your Mac
• Remove the power cord.
• After that just Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and then Release it.
• And then just connect the power cables and then boot the Mac in a normal way.

I have tried to do the above steps and I have tried both the solutions as well but then they both did not worked for me and now this screen is really getting in to my nerves. First it used to get start normally after I reboot it at the time of the black screen but no this white and black line of combination is just leaving me out of ideas. Is there any other effective solution that I can try?

Yes even I have tried Resetting the SMC and resetting the pram as well and they were not effective at all and my system still gets crash and hanged every time. For now I have also tried to reinstall the 10.6.2 update from the Apple support site but then even it did not helped and it is having the same problem. I have been getting the black screen or what we say spinning ball of death but none of the solution that I have tried by now is actually helping me out. Any further help will be appreciated.

I am having the same problem and I have tried the following but then it is not helping me out:

• I have formatted the machine and have reinstalled 10.6.0 from SL DVD.
• After that I have created a new user and have also repaired permissions through the Disk Utility for the first login and then rebooted the machine.
• And then Updated to 10.6.3 from the Combo update and after that I have Repaired permissions through the Disk Utility one more time and then rebooted again to build up the caches.
• After that the System froze and as far as I remember I was browsing iTunes Store at that time.

I don’t know what to do know. Any further help will be appreciated.

Hey I have solved my problem by reinstalling Snow Leopard and then upgrading to 10.6.2. and now I am not facing the same problem anymore and it does not freeze and hangs anymore but now I am finding the Machine a bit boggy and I have found that the Finder activity is not having the zippy feel which I was having before and also moving between apps appears to be a bit mushy other than that it is working fine. So if you want you can try out the same and get it resolved.
