When Seagate GoFlex drive is connected windows xp hangs at startup

I am totally perplexed. I've never had harms with this unit. I formatted the computer and reinstall everything. Everything works fine, but as the title of this post, Windows XP hangs at "Windows is starting up ." screen when the unit is plugged into USB AC doesn't solve the trouble. If you disconnect, it gives me the option to enter a password and Windows boots no problem.

I can connect the drive after Windows startup no problem, everything on the disk is still there and healthy .

I just checked the BIOS boot. Windows loads fine, just hang on the login screen; I have the option of entering a password. To solve the hard power, disconnecting the drive, then boot up, no trouble. I went into the BIOS and USB disabled as an option in the boot sequence, at rest no fortune.

You know I do not remember this being a problem on this computer before I format / reinstall your operating system .After I format I installed Vista Inspirat, Avast, and I use a Dlink USB wireless adapter.

Although they have "off USB as an option in the boot", enter the BIOS again. Look for the option as "USB support", if any, on and off. Then,
    • Disconnect all USB devices from your computer
    • Reboot your pc without any USB devices connected to allow the change to take effect
    • Turn off the PC, and then connect only your GoFlex
    • Start the computer. If Windows still hangs, go away to next step

There was an "On / off / No boot" option for the USB controller in the integrated devices section of the BIOS. There is no boot option did not help.

Option to drop off the USB functionality I guess because I was not able to use the keyboard or the mouse when you are prompted to enter your Windows password, although it does not hang.

Based on your description. Off option enables USB functionality I guess because I was not able to use the keyboard or the mouse when you are provoked to enter your Windows password, even although they do not hang up" it is understandable that your motherboard has incomplete the options of USB causing conflicts with other USB devices (keyboard or mouse).

Windows attempts to boot from disk drives with an active partition. If you are recognizable with DISKPART, you be able to make a partition on the disk as "inactive" and should not endeavor to boot from it any longer. Note that this is not incredible that inexperienced users should attempt, because it marks the wrong partition "INACTIVE" will make the system unbootable.

The control system for the boot devices according to BIOS settings .It verifies a primary partition, active in the first boot device .If the first boot device contains a primary partition active, but not the files of the operating system boot, then most of the BIOS to assume that there is no operating system installed and stop trying to find another boot device. if the first boot device does not contain a primary partition, active, move to the next device in the boot.
