Some thoughts on portrait lens for Nikon D7000

I have recently purchased a Nikon D7000 digital camera. I like this camera very much. I have never used a Nikon before. Actually I want click some close-up photos and some close indoor shots. I want a general all round lens that will make my pics great. I would like know some general advice and thoughts on a lens for this camera. I don’t have a high budget so any decent lens would do my job I think. So any suggestions regarding this would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You must go for the new 50mmf1.8D lens. It would be best for you as I suppose. It is quite decent and comes at very reasonable price. Below I have mentioned some positive points of this lens and the reason you should go for it.
    • Sharp. This lens really performs well
    • Cheap. Good lenses can be cheap, after all.
    • Light weight

I would recommend you to go for a 50mm/1.8G. I think it will be good for you. I personally like a little longer for portraits, I prefer a 100/2.0 and a 135/2.0. I shoot full frame. The technical specifications are as follows,
    • Mount Type: Nikon F-Bayonet
    • Focal Length: 50mm
    • Maximum Aperture: f/1.8
    • Minimum Aperture: f/16
    • Format: FX/35mm
    • Maximum Angle of View (DX-format): 31°30′
    • Maximum Angle of View (FX-format): 47°
    • Maximum Reproduction Ratio: 0.15x
    • Lens Elements: 7
    • Lens Groups: 6

I would not suggest you to go for the 50mmf1.8D lens because of the following reasons,
    • Plastic. 155 grams of plastic @ you`r fingertips
    • Not a "normal" lens on a Nikon DX sized DSLR
    • Will not autofocus on the lower end Nikon Dslr's
    • IR performance, usable to f/8, after that the lens Hot-spots badly

I have got the Nikon 50 1.4G and the 85 1.8D. These two lenses are really nice. But I prefer the 85 for portraits. So you can have a look on that. You can visit the ebay or amazon websites and book the 85 one for yourself. You will get many more options over there to look for.
