As far as I know you must be having some setting regarding numbering format in your HTC desire S mobile phone. First of all you have to tap on the contacts option from the menu and after that select the settings and then check whether you will see any settings regarding your contacts numbering or not? if you get any setting then change it according to your need. I hope this trick will help you to fix this issue. If you need any more help then let me know.

If you have taken any backup of all your contacts then I will suggest you to first delete all the contacts from your mobile phone. Now after that you have to restore that backup and after that see whether your contact numbers appears in proper format or not? I think after doing this solution your contact numbers will appear in proper format and your problem will get solved.

Well I would like to suggest you that try to synchronize your contacts again with your mobile phone and after that check whether it makes any difference or not? First you have to delete all the contacts from your HTC desire S and after that connect your mobile phone with your computer or laptop and after that synchronize it with outlook. I am suggesting you this solution because I was also having the similar problem and after that my problem gets solved by synchronizing again with outlook.

According to me somehow your Numbering format has changed during the synchronization process and I think resetting your mobile phone will solve this issue. After resetting the mobile phone you will lose all the data from your mobile phone because it will erase everything from your mobile phone. Now after doing the factory reset in your mobile phone restore the back up and then your contacts will comes back in normal format.

After referring your solution I have tried to solve this issue by resetting my mobile phone. After doing the factory reset also I was experiencing the same problem with contacts numbering format. Now after that I have visited HTC service center and there I get the solution. They have updated mobile phone software and after doing that all the thing comes back to normal. Now I am not facing any issue. I really appreciate all the help.
