Lenovo ThinkPad T420 about Hinges and changing form integrated vs discrete

I have some issues with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420. When I got my laptop the hinges of laptop slightly loose. It screen is falling back at 180 degree angle position whenever I shake it. Is there any way to tight those hinges. And also I don’t know how to switch between integrated and discrete graphics within windows. The option for changing graphics from discrete to integrated is not available. I don’t want to use BIOS to change it so can anyone provide me solution for both of my problems.

Hello, I am also having Lenovo ThinkPadT420. Yes I agree that hinges of laptop are slightly loose. But it is not a problem. Hinges are tight enough to handle screen during normal use. But also enough loose to tap screen further backsword. It is not possible to move hinges without applying force over it. Check if in between hinges there is ply or not. If you notice ply you must contact hardware engineer. Since my laptop doesn’t have any ply in between.

You need help regarding change graphics form Integrated to discrete. You don’t need to change graphics from Integrated to discrete or vice versa. Therefore they not providing any utility to change modes for T420.Your laptop will automatically switch to discrete for graphics programs and switch to integrated for other programs. Update your graphics driver to latest one so it will show you Nvidia icon in system tray. This icon will tell you which mode is currently on.

My hinges of T420 are loose also. First I don’t even notice this problem. When I kept my laptop over table I noticed that the screen is falling back. I have given my laptop 3 months back for servicing in service center and told them this problem but they told me that they never notice anything wrong with it. I have asked him to check it again but told me it is not a problem hinges are correctly fitted. As of now I don’t find any way to tight the hinges of my laptop.
