Samsung 160 GB hard drive not detected on Lenovo ThinkPad T42

I have been having some unique problem with this Lenovo ThinkPad T42 that I had since last 2 years and that was working just perfectly fine but, it seems that I need some more space on the drive which made me increase the drive space, but adding a new Samsung hard disk of 160 gig , but it seems that my laptop is not been able to upgrade this as the Samsung hard drive is not been detected . SO please help me out.

I just could not get through your problem are you trying to say that you just could not use the new Samsung hard drive that you have brought, I mean, that is just not possible because the new hard-ain ‘t have any problem , I suggest you to try out the to clean format it and the n install it , you can format the drive by connecting to the laptop as secondary drive , I would further like to say if it had some problem with bios, just post back with the detail indication the error that your laptop is giving you .

I have used this hard disk and it constantly gives me up with error, in terms of some indication through the flash light that is there, it often turns in to solid green light with in blink and turn on , it stay constant since after that , i searched for this light error on the internet and other forums site and just could not find an appropriate answer and hence decided to post my question there .so please help me accordingly.

The jumpers must not be set properly which just might be causing you the problem, secure the drive and then use that with the preset jumper in it , also see to it that you don’t have the same problem with it , I know that sounds very childish when I am speaking about this but , I would really like you to follow this step as this form the basis of any hardware connection , also check if the hard disk is rock still in the chassis as a moving hard-drive may cause the connection to lose and that may cause you some trouble.

IT can also be a problem that is caused by the by the bios, as you just told that there bios hat it is having is just too old and is not been able to set this or detect this new harddrive that you are having , I mean your laptop is almost like a 4 year , old and the hard-disk that you have brought know is new and uses the latest bios which might make it invisible to the hard-drive that it has , so just look out for an up gradation of the bios .

Have just check the minimum requirement that hard disk works with , as that might be an important factor when you are considering buying this one ,also it might just be possible hat your laptop mother board , or bios ( as the above user suggested ) might not supporting it , I mean it just could not support it , thinking the other way round the hard –disk that you have got may be corrupt and that might be causing you problem .I would suggest you to check the same hard-drive with some other similar device .

Hey guys , thank s for all the replies that you have given me thanks for all the replies that you have given me , I would rather like to have a better hard-drive next time as the hard-drive just got corrupted and that lead to all the problem that I am facing know well , thanks for all the suggestion and replies that you gave me ,
