Is it secure to give the IMEI number?

Hi all, I was just registering to one of the site for themes and other mobile stuffs. While registration they were given the field for mobile number, model number and at last they asked for the IMEI number of the phone (Nokia 3110c). I thought that it will not be secure to provide the IMEI number and so I canceled the registration. Now I am starting this thread so that someone can provide me some information that what the IMEI number exactly mean and is it safe to provide the IMEI number to someone? Thank you so much for your reply in advance.

If I tell you in short then yes, It totally depends on how you are providing the IMEI number for your phone, it is not secure. The IMEI for your phone is nothing but phones identification number and that is unique for each phone. It is precise to the phone. It can be considered as the phones social security number. If that comes in wrong hand then somebody could pinch your phones identity and that will leave you by means of a big phone bill to pay. So my recommendation to you is not to provide the IMEI number in any condition.

What is the site which is asking for the IMEI number? I would like to tell you that no site needs IMEI number to provide you the themes or any other mobile application. Mobile model number is good to prove, even mobile number is also OK at the time but IMEI number is not secure to provide. They can misuse this and you will be in trouble. So don’t provide that to any site except the official phones manufacturers’ website. There are many of the other sites from where you can download the themes for your phone.

It is nothing but the International Mobile Equipment Identity number. IMEI number is exclusive for every mobile phone. This covers the Covering GSM as well as CDMA phones. You will find the IMEI number written otherwise printed beneath the phone's battery. Though, you can also uncover the IMEI number for your phone with * # 06 # keys from the keyboard. It is a 15 digit number exclusive to each and every cell phone in the world.

I am totally agree with all the posts that are mentioned above and I am sure that IMEI number will be well known to you after reading that. But even after that, you need more information on this then you can refer this thread. They have also discussed about the same topic and you will be more clear with the IMEI number after reading that post. Lastly I want to advise you to not to give your IMEI number to any of the site. Thank you.
